Health Regulations

No vaccination certificate is required for entry into India except for persons travelling to India through yellow-fever endemic countries (certain African and Latin American countries).
Inoculations: Make sure you have your regular inoculations against polio and tetanus. For further information contact your local health information service.
Do not be paranoid about falling ill whilst in India. Common sense should prevent you from ruining your trip. Fatigue, over-eating, spicy food, dehydration, could all lead to a mild attack of diarrhea (Delhi-belly) or flu.
Some basic precautions should protect you from the common aliments which afflict travelers & also from other major tropical illness. Eat nutritionally rounded meals.

Be careful about what you are eating & where. Eat freshly cooked food while it is still hot. The basic rule is to boil it, cook it, peel it or forget it.

If safe water is not at hand, drink any of the aerated drinks available as a temporary substitute. Clean the mouth of the bottle and use a clean glass. Fresh coconut water (opened before you) and oranges are great and safe substitutes.
Fresh fruit or vegetables must be rigorously cleaned and should ideally be peeled; avoid raw salads in places where you are not absolutely confident of hygiene standards.
Avoid excessive drinking of alcohol, especially during the day and in hot weather, unless you dehydrate yourself sufficiently and get adequate rest. Keep an adequate supply of Alka Seltzers on you; they can be life savers. Ice can be very tempting on hot days with your drinks. Avoid it unless you are sure that the water is safe.
