A visa is required for India by all foreign tourists. Go pre-armed
with your current passport (valid for the length of your intended trip),
the current form (not an old one please), the required number of photos
and the exact visa fees (usually quoted in US$), as these are subject to
revision. |
 |
If you intend to leave India for a short period to re-enter
soon (e.g. visit to Sri Lanka or Nepal), please make sure that you apply
for a multiple-entry visa which covers the entire period of your trip. |
 |
Please apply for a visa allowing entry for the entire length
of your intended stay. The validity of a visa per visit is for a stay of
up to six months from the date of issue, regardless of whether you have
left the country for a period. Check whether the visa period starts from
the date of issue or the date of first arrival in India. |
 |
Stay beyond the period stipulated in your visa must be registered
with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in major cities,
or the nearest police station. |
 |
Apply before the expiry of your visa term as there is some
lengthy paperwork, at least at the first renewal when they collate your
file. |
 |
If you are an N.R.I. (Non Resident Indian) and you are likely
to visit India at least twice in five years, you would do well to apply
for a multiple-entry visa with a validity of five years. |
